A man has been left with serious injuries after he was assaulted at Knockane, Co. Tipperary, on Saturday night.

The incident happened shortly after 9 pm.

A man in his 40s was treated at the scene and subsequently transported by ambulance to Cork University Hospital with serious injuries.

Two men in their 20s were later arrested in connection with the investigation.

They are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in Co. Tipperary.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
