A man has been arrested following the serious assault of a man in Mitchelstown, Co. Cork.

The incident happened at midnight on Saturday.

A man in his 40s was conveyed to Cork University Hospital for the treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

A man in his 40s was arrested and conveyed to a Garda Station in Co. Cork.

He is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
