Dublin has been selected as part of a worldwide programme to improve housing provision in cities.

Bloomberg LSE European City Leadership Initiative is a professional leadership and management programme, designed specifically for mayors and municipal officials.

The programme aims to provide local government officials from cities across Europe with expertise to tackle problems, modernise services, strengthen operations, and improve people’s lives.

This is the first year that the programme is running, with 30 mayors and 60 senior officials from 17 countries participating - representing over 21 million residents.

Speaking on Newstalk, business correspondent Joe Lynam, explained the nature of the programme:

"Michael Bloomberg, the billionaire who established the eponymous Bloomberg Newswire, has set up Bloomberg Philanthropies, and it is hoping to select cities from 17 different countries to work on key issues that really bug cities, especially housing and especially transport."
