Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a teenage boy was shot in the leg outside a house in Dublin on Monday night.

It happened in the Bluebell area shortly after 8pm.

Speaking on Newstalk, local Sinn Féin councillor Daithí Doolan said attacks like this will only stop when the government gets serious about gun crime.

"This is a direct attack on this whole community last night and I would appeal to the coummity to remain clam, to support each other, and I wish the person who was shot a quick and speedy recover," he said.

"I would make an appeal this morning to the Minister for Justice to ensure that the gardaí are fully resourced, fully supported, in tackling gun crime in the city and those involved in this are brought to justice."
