An investigation has been launched after a man was seriously injured after a fall from a moving vehicle in Co Donegal.

The incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday morning last in the centre of Ballyshannon.

A man was found with injuries along Bachelor's Walk after falling from a moving vehicle.

It followed an earlier incident involving local gardaí investigating a roads policing matter.

Donegal Daily understands that gardaí had seized a vehicle and it was being taken to Ballyshannon garda station on the back of a recovery vehicle.

It is understood the man who was injured had been in the vehicle which was impounded and was being taken to the local garda station.

It is understood the injured man fell from the vehicle and suffered a serious head injury.

He was subsequently taken to Sligo University Hospital for treatment.

The extent of his injuries are not yet known.

A spokesperson for the Garda Press Office confirmed a man was injured after a fall from a moving vehicle.

The spokesperson confirmed "An Garda Síochána was alerted to a man injured following a fall from a moving vehicle on Bachelor’s Walk in Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal on Tuesday morning, 30th September 2025.

"This matter has been referred by An Garda Síochána to Fiosrú under Section 203 of the Security and Policing Security & Community Safety Act 2024 due to an earlier interaction between Gardaí investigating a roads policing matter and the occupants of a car that the male may have been in.

"An Garda Síochána does not comment on incidents that have been referred to Fiosrú for its consideration."
Fiosrú, the Office of the Police Ombudsman, has been contacted for a response on the incident.
