An orange wind warning has been issued for five counties as Storm Amy hits the country.

Originally a yellow warning, Donegal, Mayo, Galway, Sligo, and Leitrim were upgraded to orange wind warnings for Friday.

The warning comes into effect from 2 pm until 10 pm on Friday.

Met Éireann has warned of possible power outages, fallen trees, very difficult travelling conditions and possible wave overtopping.

A yellow wind warning is in place for the rest of the country on Friday from 2pm Friday until midnight.

There is currently a yellow rain warning in place for Cavan, Donegal, all of Munster, Connacht, and Longford until 8pm on Thursday night.

There is also an orange rain warning in place for Kerry until 8pm.

Met Éireann has warned of localised flooding and difficult travelling conditions.

On Saturday, there are wind warnings in place for seven counties.

A yellow warning is in place for Clare, Kerry, Galway, and Mayo, from midnight until 12pm, while a wind and rain warning is in place for Sligo, Donegal, and Leitrim.

The yellow warning is in place from midnight until 12pm.

Met Éireann is warning of localised flooding, difficult travelling conditions and fallen trees.

Along the coast, there is also a Status Red Storm warning from Loop Head to Rossan Point to Fair Head between 2pm and 8pm on Friday.

In Northern Ireland, a Yellow wind warning is in place for the entire region between 4pm on Friday and 6am on Saturday.

The UK Met Office said Storm Amy is expected to bring a spell of strong winds to Northern Ireland during Friday and Friday night.

Storm Amy is the first named storm of the season to affect Ireland. It is the remnants of Hurricane Humberto, which rattled the Caribbean and east coast of the United States in recent days.
