A man has been arrested after a handgun, ammunition, and €23,000 of suspected illegal cocaine were seized during a search of a residence in the Dublin 8 area on Monday.

Gardaí from the Dublin Metropolitan Region (DMR) South Central Divisional Crime Taskforce recovered a Glock handgun and ammunition.

Cocaine with an approximate value of €23,000, weaponry and drug paraphernalia were also seized.

The firearm was forwarded for technical examination by the Ballistics Section of the Garda Technical Bureau.

The drugs seized are now subject to analysis by Forensic Science Ireland.

A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene. He has since been charged and is expected to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice on Tuesday afternoon.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
