A woman, aged in her 80s, has died following a collision between a truck and an SUV in Co Roscommon on Tuesday.

The crash occurred on the N5 at Scramoge shortly after 5pm, the woman who died was a passenger in the SUV. She was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The driver of the SUV, a woman in her 70s, was transferred by air ambulance to University Hospital Galway for treatment of serious injuries.

No other injuries were reported.

The road is closed and expected to remain so until tomorrow pending an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 4.45pm and 5.15pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
