A Georgian man accused of attacking his former partner in Dublin caused her psychological harm and stole her car, it is alleged.

Dato Sesadze, aged 35, who has been living at an accommodation centre at Monastery Road, Clondalkin, Dublin 22, was charged with assault causing harm and unlawfully using the woman’s car at Thomas Street on Sunday.

Judge Gerard Jones set cash bail at €500 and remanded him in custody pending the lodgement of the bond money.

He will appear at Cloverhill District Court later this week.

Objecting to bail, Garda Emmanuel Adepoju alleged that the complainant could identify the accused by name and was her ex-partner.

It was claimed that he did not strike her, but he "shook her about” with his hands, causing psychological harm after he got into her car.

The vehicle was found in the centre where he lived, and security at his accommodation facility reportedly observed the accused driving it there.

Mr Sesadze, who did not address the court, has yet to enter a plea.

The charges are under sections 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act and 112 of the Road Traffic Act.

A decision has yet to be made on whether the case will stay in the District Court or be transferred to the Circuit Court, which has greater sentencing powers.

Legal aid was granted, and the judge warned him to obey the bail conditions.

Mr Sesadze must sign on three days a week at a garda station and have no contact with the complainant after he takes up bail.
