Three teenage girls are in serious condition following a crash at Carrigroe, Tinahely, Co Wicklow last night.

The car they were passengers in collided with a ditch and overturned at around 11.30pm.

The driver, a male in his late teens, and three other passengers were uninjured.

The injured teenagers were brought to Tallaght University Hospital and St Vincent’s University Hospital.

The road is closed with diversions in place.

Gardaí are urging anyone who may have witnessed either crash, or who has dashcam footage from the areas at the time, to come forward.

Local Fine Gael TD Brian Brennan told BreakingNews.ie: "This accident happened late last night in the Tinahely region of Co Wicklow. It is believed a car with a number of occupants lost control on the Ballinglen to Knockananna route.

"From the information we have received, three of these occupants, all females, are now being treated for serious injuries in Tallaght University Hospital. At this stage our thoughts and prayers are with the injured and their families."
