A 25-year-old man has been charged with violent disorder in connection with incidents on Dublin’s Sean McDermott Street last week.

Sean Lawrence, with an address in Dublin 11, is accused of using or threatening to use violence with three other named men during an alleged incident on August 22nd.

He appeared before Catherine Hayden at Dublin District Court on Friday. The case is related to incidents that were recently featured on social media clips.

Detective Garda Michelle Fitzpatrick told the court that Mr Lawrence “made no reply” when charged in the early hours of Thursday at Store Street station.

He was handed a true copy of the charge sheet and held pending his court hearing.

She had no objection to bail subject to specific conditions, including no contact with the three other men named on the charge and that he stay out of the Dublin 1 area, saying “he has no need to be in Dublin 1.”

Defence solicitor Tracey Horan asked that her client’s full address not be read out in open court due to “fears for his safety”. She wrote out the location on a piece of paper and handed it into court.

The solicitor said her client agreed to the conditions mentioned and two others: to surrender his passport, reside at the address furnished to the court, and provide gardaí with a contact phone number, and sign on two days a week.

Ms Horan told the court she understood the case involved a “comprehensive file” and that the detective would need time to complete a file for the Director of Public Prosecutions and to compile book evidence. As a result, lengthy adjournment was granted.

Mr Lawrence, who did not address the court or indicate a plea, was released and ordered to appear again in December.

Legal aid was granted.
