Thousands of people will receive college offers through the CAO from 2pm today.

Nearly 90,000 people applied through the portal, an increase of about 6,000 from last year.

They include more than 51,000 from students who sat their Leaving Certificate in June.

Applicants have until the September 3rd to accept offers.

Eileen Keleghan from the Central Applications Office explained how the offers work.

Ms Keleghan told Newstalk: "Applicants, if deemed eligible, will receive an offer of a course highest up on their list on either their Level 8, Level 7, 6, or both.

"You can only receive one offer per list, so you may be in a position where you receive a Level 8 offer, and a Level 7, 6, offer.

"You can only accept one offer, per offer round."
