An elderly man has died following a house fire in North Clare overnight.

Emergency services were alerted at around 3.30am and responded to a reported fire at a residence in Moymore about five kilometres from Lahinch.

Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Ennistymon station, National Ambulance Service paramedics and gardaí attended the incident. The fire was brought under control by fire crews.

A man in his 70s was pronounced dead and his body remains at the scene.

The County Coroner has been notified of the death and the man's body is expected to be removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick later.

A technical examination will be carried out at the property this morning in an effort to establish the cause of the fire. gardaí and fire service personnel remain at the scene.

A Garda spokesperson confirmed: "Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal house fire at a residence in Moymore, Co. Clare in the early hours of Wednesday, 27th August 2025.

A male, aged in his 70s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The fire was extinguished by Clare County Fire Service.

The scene is currently preserved pending a technical examination. The local coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination is to be arranged for the deceased."
