Luas Red Line services between Connolly and The Point are to remain closed for several weeks "at a minimum".

The news comes following severe damage to George's Docklands bridge by a recent fire in the area.

Transdev, the Luas operator, said that initial investigations have shown significant damage to the bridge.

Structural engineering assessments are ongoing, led by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and Transdev, the operators said, and until the safety checks are complete, services cannot resume in the area.

The Luas is continuing to operate between Tallaght/Saggart and Connolly; however, there is no tram service between Connolly and The Point.

Luas tickets are valid on Dublin Bus services operating between Connolly and The Point.

The Luas team have also been examining options for a dedicated replacement bus service to cover the affected section while works and assessments continue, the tram operator added.

Further updates will be provided as engineering assessments progress, and for more information and service updates, passengers have been advised to visit www.luas.ie or follow Luas on social media.
