English tourist (40s) in critical condition after assault in Dublin's Temple Bar

An English tourist is in a critical condition in hospital following an assault in Dublin city centre in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene in the Temple Bar Square area at about 12.30am.

A man in his 40s was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The scene was preserved and a technical examination has taken place.

Gardaí in Pearse Street are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them.
