The Data Protection Commission has launched an investigation into Children's Health Ireland over a data breach at one of its facilities.

It relates to physical safety and security of children's health records within one specific CHI facility in Tallaght, Co Dublin, Newstalk reported.

The Data Protection Commission said it became aware of potential issues at the site from a number of different sources.

They include protected disclosures and a breach notification submitted by Children's Health Ireland, according to Newstalk.

The DPC carried out an unannounced site inspection on July 16th, after it reviewed the available information.

The formal inquiry is to examine CHI's compliance with its GDPR obligations, in particular relating to the security of personal data, and the processes CHI has in place for managing physical records in the facility in Tallaght.

CHI said it is cooperating fully with the Data Protection Commission.
