A woman in her 50s has died after getting into difficulty off the coast of Donegal.

Gardaí were called to the scene near Glencolmcille shortly after 7pm on Friday evening.

The woman was airlifted to Sligo University Hospital, but died a short time later.

A postmortem exam is due to be carried out.
