A man arrested in connection with a knife attack on a garda in Dublin is to appear in court.

The man in his 20s has been charged and will appear in court in the city on Thursday.

A probationary garda was stabbed in what was described as an unprovoked attack on Capel Street in Dublin city on Tuesday evening.

Two gardaí were on a routine high-visibility patrol in the capital’s streets when the incident took place.

A double-edged tactical knife was recovered at the scene.
