Gardaí are investigating a stabbing incident in Dublin city centre which has left one man seriously injured.

The incident took place shortly after 8:30pm on Monday on James Joyce Street.

The man received stab wounds to his left leg after another man on a bicycle allegedly stabbed him, it is understood.

Passers-by quickly came to the man’s aid and managed to give him first aid. Gardaí and emergency services were soon on the scene and cordoned off the street to the public.

In a statement, gardaí said that “an adult male sustained injuries during the course of the incident. He received treatment at the scene and was subsequently transported by ambulance to the Mater Hospital.”

His injuries are understood to be serious but not life-threatening.

Gardaí added that the scene has been preserved for forensic examination and their investigations are ongoing.
