A man in his 40s has been arrested after the discovery of improvised explosive devices (IEDs)in the Northeast and Southwest of the country.

The man was arrested on Sunday in Co Monaghan during an operation involving National, Regional and local Garda units.

He is currently being detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939 at a Garda Station in the North Western Region.

An Garda Síochána continues to liaise with the PSNI in relation to this investigation.
