A woman has been arrested following a suspected stabbing of a man in Co Kilkenny.

The alleged assault took place at a premises in Freshford, in the north of the county around 8.30pm on Tuesday.

Gardaí and emergency services rushed to the scene where the man was found with injuries. He was taken by ambulance to St Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny city.

It is understood the man remains in hospital where he is receiving treatment.

In a statement gardaí confirmed that they are “investigating an alleged assault that occurred at a residence in Freshford, Co Kilkenny on the evening of Tuesday 1st July”.

The woman is being questioned by detectives in Kilkenny City Garda Station.

A garda presence remains at the house in Freshford.

Garda investigations are ongoing.
