A man in his 40s has died in a road traffic collision in Mayo.

The single-vehicle incident, involving a motorcycle, happened on the R331 at Friarsquarter East, Ballinrobe at around 7:40am on Tuesday morning.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and brought to Mayo University Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The road has since reopened and gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
