A man has died and two people were injured following a road crash near Waterford city on Saturday afternoon.

Gardaí and emergency services rushed to the scene of the crash which occurred at about 2.25pm on the old Tramore Road (L1020).

It is understood that the car in which all three were travelling hit a tree.

Two of the people in the car received treatment from the emergency services.

In a statement, gardaí confirmed the incident had taken place.

“Gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene of a serious road traffic collision on the L1020 Old Tramore Road at Ballindud in Co Waterford that occurred at approximately 2.25pm. The road is closed and local diversions are in place.

“No further information is available at this time.”
