A man has died after his car entered the water in Co Mayo.

The single-vehicle crash happened at Glen, Clare Island, at about 1pm on Tuesday afternoon.

The driver, a man in his 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has been removed to Mayo University Hospital for a postmortem.

The scene has been examined by a forensic collision investigator.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
