Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision on Rathbawn Road in Castlebar, Co Mayo, on Thursday.

The incident involved a pedestrian and a lorry and occurred this morning at approximately 9:55am.

The pedestrian, a woman aged her 60s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the lorry has been taken to hospital for treatment.

The road was closed for technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators which is now completed. The road has reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 9:30am and 10:00am are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
