A man in his 30s has died after a suspected stabbing incident on Monday night in Youghal, Co Cork.

Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to an assault at a commercial premises on North Main Street at 9:50pm.

A man in his 30s was taken to Cork University Hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later.

A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with the fatal assault and is currently being detained.

An incident room has been established at Midleton Garda station, while a family liaison officer has been appointed to support the family of the man who died.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. They can contact Midleton Garda station on 021 4621550, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
