A child (11) has been taken to hospital following a stabbing at a north Dublin primary school.

Gardaí said the incident involved two children, both of whom attend the school.

The child's injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

The Irish Times have reported that the child was stabbed in an attack believed to be carried out by another pupil. The school has been sealed off and a criminal investigation has commenced.

According to The Irish Times, gardaí were trying to determine a motive for the incident, which was initially unclear.

Gardaí said they are in contact with the parents of both children, and are liaising with school management and staff.

They also said they are continuing to engage with all relevant State agencies regarding the incident.

An Garda Síochána also said in a statement that there is no concern for public safety.
