A man in his 40s who was arrested after firearms and ammunition were seized in Co Meath has been charged.

He is expected to appear before Dundalk District Court on Thursday morning.

On Wednesday, gardaí searched a property in Bettystown.

During the search, a 9mm CZ handgun with three fully loaded magazines was recovered along with an improvised handgun (subject to ballistic examination).

In addition to the firearms, over 1,500 rounds of ammunition were seized, consisting of an assortment of 9mm, .22, .38, .45 rounds and shotgun cartridges.
