A man has been charged over a fire in Co Tyrone which led to police officers rescuing two adults and two children from a burning house.

The 21-year-old man has been charged with arson with intent to endanger life following the incident in the Cunninghams Lane area of Dungannon on Monday night.

He will appear at Strabane Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

A 15-year-old male who was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life has been released on bail to allow for further inquiries to be carried out.

A 70-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man and two children, aged seven and 10, are being treated in hospital following the blaze.

Eight police officers were also taken to hospital for smoke inhalation but have since been released.

PSNI Deputy Chief Constable Bobby Singleton earlier this week hailed the “brave and courageous actions” of the police officers who went into the burning house to rescue the occupants.
