Gardaí have arrested five men after searches of a Cargo vessel at anchor in the Shannon Estuary on Wednesday.

A 28-year-old man was arrested arrested on the cargo vessel, on suspicion of facilitating/enhancing a criminal organisation to commit a serious offence.

The man is being held in a Garda station in Co Clare.

Four men, aged aged 30, 31, 39 and 45, who were arrested on suspicion of facilitating/enhancing a criminal organisation to commit a serious offence at Meenogahane, Co. Kerry, January 13th continue to be detained in Garda stations in Kerry.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
