A man has been left in a serious condition following a serious assault in Monaghan town on Tuesday.

The incident happened in the Park Road area of the town between 10pm and 11pm.

A man in his 40s received life-threatening injuries and was brought by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.

He has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin and his condition is described as critical.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.

Any persons who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) from the Park Road area between 10pm and 11pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
