Gardaí investigating the discovery of a woman's body in Co Roscommon have launched a murder investigation.

Mirjana Pap, who was in her 50s, was found on lands at Curraghaleen outside Athlone on Monday.

She had been missing since last Saturday, the 28th.

A postmortem has since been carried at Galway University Hospital, following which gardaí have upgraded the case to a murder inquiry.

Gardaí say they are following a definite line of enquiry.

They are appealing for anyone with information to come forward - and are particularly interested in the movements of a silver Peugeot 207 with an 08-G registration which left Athlone in the direction of Monksland between 11am and 12pm last Saturday.
