Five counties are under status yellow weather warnings on Tuesday morning.

Donegal is under a rain alert until 11am, while Cork and Kerry will be affected by a similar warning until Wednesday morning at 6am.

A wind advisory is also in place in Donegal, Mayo and Galway until 11am on Tuesday.

Met Éireann said it will be rather cloudy and wet this morning with a band of rain drifting down over the country.

The rain will gradually move away during the afternoon but it will remain cloudy with a few isolated showers following too. Highest temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees with fresh to strong southwesterly breezes, easing later.

On Wednesday it will be cloudy with widespread rain in the south, possibly heavy at times. The rain will clear away later in the morning followed by a mix of cloud and a few showers, which may turn wintry again across higher ground in the far north.

Fresh westerly breezes will ease light in the afternoon with highest temperatures of 5 to 8 degrees but turning very cold in the evening.

It will be largely dry, sunny and cold on Thursday with just a few light showers along north facing coasts, some wintry. Highest temperatures of 1 to 5 degrees generally in mostly light northerly winds.

They said current indications are a rather unsettled weekend with outbreaks of rain and blustery winds. It will remain cold overall but temperatures are likely to recover towards the end of the weekend.
