The first regular season NFL game to be played in Ireland is set to be confirmed for Croke Park next September.

Sources told the Irish Examiner that the game, which will include the Pittsburgh Steelers, is to be confirmed pending government approval after the GAA already signed off on it.

The sources told the Examiner that it will be the biggest sporting event ever to happen in Ireland.

In the Fine Gael manifesto, an NFL game in Ireland is cited as a goal.

“Actively bid to host major international sporting events, including the Rugby World Cup, European Football Championships, NFL games, and major athletics championships. This will drive tourism, stimulate the economy, and raise Ireland’s international profile.”

The Steelers already have a relationship with the GAA, and they staged youth camps in Cork and Belfast in June.
