Man arrested after woman seriously assaulted in Co Galway

A man has been arrested after a woman was seriously assaulted in Co Galway.

Gardaí attended a home in Ballinasloe on Monday at around 7pm, where they found a woman who had been seriously injured.

The woman, aged in her 50s, was taken to Portiuncula University Hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

A man, also aged in his 50s, has been arrested and is being detained at a Galway Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
