Election 2024: Constituency battles heading into Sunday night

In the second day of counting from Friday's general election, there is still much to play for heading into Sunday night.

There is a number of big name TDs who are currently in danger, and will need a number of things to go their way to retain their seats.

Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly is in danger in Wicklow, as he is currently in fifth, where there is four seats available.

Simon Harris has been elected, with the Social Democrats Jennifer Whitmore, Sinn Féin's John Brady and Fine Gael's Edward Timmins in place to be elected.

After nine counts in Sligo-Leitrim, it is still all to play for, with all four seats up for grabs.

With the quota at 11,381, Fine Gael TD Frank Feighan currently has 10,216 votes, with Sinn Féin's Martin Kenny in second with 8,927.

Independent Ireland's Michael Clarke has 7,297 votes, with Fianna Fáil's Eamon Scanlon in fourth with 6,335.

Fianna Fáil's Paddy O'Rourke's votes are to be distriputed.

In Mayo, Sinn Féin's Rose Conway Walsh, Fine Gael's Alan Dillon and Fianna Fáil's Dara Calleary have been elected.

Fine Gael's Keira Keogh is set to take the fourth, with a battle between Paul Lawless of Aontú and Independent TD Patsy O'Brien.

In Dublin West, Green Party leader Roderic O'Gorman is in big danger of losing his seat, with Aontu's Ellen Troy winning the battle for the fifth seat.

People Before Profit's Ruth Coppinger is in fourth, with Fianna Fáil's Jack Chambers, Sinn Féin's Paul Donnelly and Fine Gael's Emer Currie already elected.

In Kerry, Michael Healy-Rae and Sinn Fein’s Pa Daly have been elected, with three seats still to play for.

Minister for Education Norma Foley, and fellow Fianna Fáil candidate Michael Cahill are in contention for seats, along with Danny Healy-Rae.

In Donegal, Sinn Féin's Pearse Doherty and Padraig Mac Lochlainn have been elected, with three seats still to play for.

Fianna Fáil duo Pat 'The Cope' Gallagher and Charlie McConalogue are in position to take up seats, with a battle for the fifth seat between Charles Ward from the 100 PerCent Redress Party and independent Thomas Pringle.

In Limerick City, there is a tight battle between Social Democrats Elisa O'Donovan and Labour's Conor Sheehan for the last seat.

At 5pm, 86 seats are now filled with Fianna Fáil marginally ahead of Fine Gael, with 23 seats to 22 seats. Sinn Féin is on 20 seats.
