There were 400 people waiting on a bed in hospitals around the country on Friday morning.

Figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation found that University Hospital Limerick had the highest number of patients waiting, at 79.

That was followed by Cork University Hospital and Sligo University Hospital.

Of the total number waiting on trolleys on Friday, 267 were in emergency departments, while 133 were in wards elsewhere.
