A suspected burglar who had to be rescued by emergency services from a vent above a chipper is due to appear before Limerick District Court this morning in connection with the incident.

The man was extracted from the vent on the roof of the fast food premises by firefighters attached to Limerick City and County Firefighters on Wednesday.

The man was spotted by a member of the public and is thought to have been stuck in the vent for more than 12 hours.

Firefighters used a Bronto skylight to access and free the man from his predicament. Gardaí attached to Roxboro Road station arrested the man at the scene.

Gardaí said the man would appear before court this morning charged in connection with the matter.

“Gardaí investigating an incident at a business premises in Dooradoyle, Limerick city arrested a man, in his (40s), who was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in Limerick, and has been charged,” a Garda spokeswoman said.

“He is due to appear before Limerick District Court, Court No. 6, at 10.30am Thursday 7th November 2024.”

“Investigations are ongoing.”
