Classes at South East Technological University (SETU) Waterford are to resume on Tuesday, following a significant cyberattack last week.

Monday’s classes were cancelled after its IT systems were targeted last Friday.

The University said they are continuing to actively deal with the attack and are liaising with gardaí.

Students' Union President at SETU, Mark Dunne, is warning some disruption may still arise.

Mr Dunne said: ”Students can resume classes from today, however they can expect some disruption to services such as internet connectivity and being able to print on campus," he said.

"Lectures will be going ahead as normal while we work through this process."

The campus had no internet and access to other online facilities.

SETU in a statement said the attack was identified at an early stage and that their IT team had "moved swiftly to safeguard” systems".

The university pointed out that there was no evidence indicating that data or information had been compromised.

The university is continuing to monitor the situation closely, are liaising with specialist cyber security advisers and their investigations are ongoing.

Classes elsewhere in the university’s south-east campuses continued as normal on Monday, along with apprenticeship classes at Waterford.

The postponement of classes in Waterford was to enable staff to organise lectures without campus internet.
