An Irish holidaymaker has been arrested on suspicion of taking an upskirt photo of a British teenager at a Magaluf hotel.

The 31-year-old was held after relatives of the 14-year-old girl allegedly alerted hotel staff, who then contacted police.

The officers viewed CCTV footage before taking the Irish man into custody.

The incident that led to his arrest occurred at 8pm on Tuesday in a hotel corridor.

The girl’s relatives are understood to have spotted him allegedly taking the picture and acted immediately to make sure the authorities were informed.

The CCTV footage police were handed “corroborated” the British teenager’s claims, according to local reports.

The man appeared in court in the Majorcan capital Palma on Wednesday after a night in police cells.

A judge told him, following a closed court hearing, she was freeing him on bail pending an ongoing investigation, but handed him a restraining order from going near the hotel.

The ban prevented him from returning to his hotel room to collect his belongings. It was not immediately clear on Thursday if he had been able to seek help from the hotel or a holiday companion to retrieve them.

The aparthotel where both the Irish holidaymaker and the British family were staying is a four-star establishment a short walk from the beach.
