Two Dublin schools have been evacuated following a major gas leak.

Dublin Fire Brigade said it is working with Gas Networks Ireland after a gas main was struck near Esker Drive in Lucan.

Scoil Áine Naofa and St Thomas' safely self-evacuated on Monday morning and the situation was made safe at 9:58am.

Traffic restrictions remain in place.

Gas Networks Ireland said: “At 9:14am today, October 7th, Gas Networks Ireland responded immediately to a report of third-party damage to a gas pipeline in Lucan, Co. Dublin.

"Gas Networks Ireland staff arrived on site at 9:28am and the situation was made safe at 9:58am.”
