A man who was arrested in connection with the death of a man who was an inmate at Cloverhill prison in Dublin has been released without charge.

The man was arrested on Saturday afternoon and was released from detention under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Gardaí were alerted to an incident within the prison shortly after 5:30am in which a man in his 40s was injured.

He received medical treatment but was pronounced dead a short time later.

A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
