A man (70s) has died in a fatal single vehicle road traffic collision in Co Kilkenny on Monday morning.

The collision, involving a car, occurred at around 9.30am on the R448 at Smithstown, Mullinavat in Co Kilkenny.

The driver, a man in his 70s, was fatally injured.

The local coroner has been notified and arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination.

The road was closed for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, and has since reopened.

Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses of the collision to come forward, and any road users who may have camera footage, including dash cam, and were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make the footage available to investigating gardaí.
