Hundreds of homes are still without power this morning after torrential downpours overnight.

The clean-up begins today after an orange rain warning ended for four counties overnight.

Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford and Waterford saw flooding and travel disruption while under the orange alert.

The ESB says crews have been mobilised and are working to restore power as quickly and as safely as possible.

Some spot flooding is still expected, especially in the south and south east of the country.

Debris may also have blown onto the roads, so drivers need to take care.

Met Éireann's forecast for today is as follows: "Mostly cloudy this morning with patchy rain and drizzle spreading from the northwest but it will become drier and brighter in the southwest with sunny spells.

"During the afternoon, the cloud and rain will become largely confined to Ulster and north Leinster with a mix of sunshine and scattered showers elsewhere. Much of the country will become dry in the evening. Highest temperatures of 11 to 16 degrees in moderate to fresh northwest winds."
