Gardaí have arrested a man, aged in his 50s, following the seizure of cocaine worth €2.8 million at Dublin Port.

Revenue officers made the seizure at Dublin Port on Sunday, and the man was arrested by gardaí from the DMR North Central Divisional Drugs Unit.

Revenue officers discovered 40 kilograms of cocaine concealed in the floor cavity of a trailer during a search of a vehicle that had disembarked from a ferry arriving from Cherbourg, France.

The man was arrested at the scene and is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996, at a Garda station in the Dublin region. He can be held for up to seven days.

The drugs seized will be forwarded to Forensic Sceine Ireland (FSI) for analysis.

Investigations are ongoing, gardaí said.
