Police name woman who died in Co Antrim road crash

A woman who died in a road crash in Co Antrim has been named by police.

Eileen Thornton, 44, from the Broughshane area, died following a single-vehicle incident on the Cushendall Road in Ballymena shortly after 8pm on Tuesday.

Inspector Cherith Adair said: “Officers attended the scene along with our colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, however Eileen sadly passed away later in hospital.

“Our thoughts are with the family at this time and an investigation is now under way to establish the circumstances.

“The collision investigation unit is appealing to anyone who may have any information which may assist with our investigation, or who may have been travelling in the area at the time and captured any dash-cam or other footage, to get in touch on 101, quoting reference number 1515 03/09/24.”
