Five people have been arrested after 19 petrol bombs were seized by gardaí in Kildare.

Gardaí intercepted a car in the Carbury area of Kildare at approximately 11:30pm on Monday.

In the vehicle, there were 19 petrol bombs recovered, with four men arrested at the scene.

Separately, while dealing with the incident, gardaí were confronted by a man in his late 40s who was armed with a knife.

He was arrested and charged, and appeared before a sitting of Naas District Court on Tuesday morning.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing and further updates will follow.
