A yellow wind and rain warning has been issued for Mayo and Galway for Wednesday night.

The warning comes into effect from 6:30pm on Wednesday night to 2:30am on Thursday morning.

It is as the remnants of Hurricane Ernesto tracks towards Ireland.

A high tide advisory warning has been issued for all coasts from 12pm on Wednesday until 12pm on Friday.

Wednesday will see strong and gusty south to southwest winds with spells of heavy rain and coinciding with very high tides.

There will be outbreaks of rain and drizzle on Wednesday morning, mainly across the northern half of the country.

A band of heavier rain and strong to gale force south to southwest winds will move in along the west coast later in the evening. Highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees.

Wednesday night will be wet and windy as rain spreads eastwards over Ireland, heavy at times and accompanied by strong, gusty southerly winds, with gales along parts of the west coast.

Impacts are most likely in coastal areas and on higher ground.

Met Éireann warns of coastal flooding, damage to temporary structures and difficult travelling conditions.
