The Irish Coast Guard was alerted to the incident around 10:20am and the Coast Guard Helicopter was called into action.

A woman has been airlifted to hospital after suffering a fall in County Clare.

It's believed the incident occurred in the sand dunes at Fanore on Wednesday morning.

The Irish Coast Guard was alerted to the incident around 10:20am and the Coast Guard helicopter was called into action.

The casualty was taken safely from the scene and was subsequently transferred to University Hospital Galway by R115.
