The entire country will be under a status yellow weather warning from later on Sunday night.

The advisory for rain will last from 10pm until 8am on Monday morning.

A band of heavy rain will move eastwards across the country on Sunday night and Monday morning, with thundery downpours possible.

Met Éireann said potential impacts include localised flooding, difficult travelling conditions and poor visibility.


Most places dry at first on Sunday with variable cloud and sunny spells.

Cloudier conditions with patchy drizzle, mist and fog affecting the south and southwest, however.

Cloud will gradually increase through the afternoon, and scattered showers will develop, with some turning heavy in the west and southwest this evening.

Highest temperatures 20 to 25 degrees with east to southeasterly winds increasing moderate to fresh.

Largely dry on Monday, with sunny spells. Isolated showers near western coasts. Highest temperatures 18 to 22 degrees with light to moderate southwesterly winds.

Rain and drizzle will clear eastwards on Tuesday morning with sunshine developing for the afternoon and evening.

Highest temperatures 18 to 22 degrees in moderate to fresh and gusty southerly winds which will veer westerly and ease light to moderate for the afternoon.

After a largely dry start with some sunny spells on Wednesday, it will turn breezier with rain and drizzle tracking eastwards over the country. Highest temperatures 17 to 22 degrees generally.

In terms of the upcoming week, the indications show continued unsettled conditions.
